New York City's First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright officially resigned on Tuesday, the latest high-profile resignation in the massive federal corruption scandal of New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Wright is expected to be replaced by Maria Torres Springer, the city's deputy mayor for housing.
She is on the list of recent resignations from the Adams Administration (New York). That includes her new husband, outgoing principal David Banks, who is also due to step down in the coming weeks, as well as his brother and close ally of Mr. Adams. Phil Banks resigned as deputy mayor on Sunday.
A spokesperson said Wright will complete his term at the end of this month.
“We are grateful to First Deputy Mayor Wright for his many years of service to our city and for his commitment to children, families, and working-class New Yorkers,” Adams said in a statement distributed Tuesday. He said in a statement that he plans to do so. “She is an exceptional leader who has assembled a strong team and consistently demonstrated a bold vision for our city.”
The resignation comes just two weeks after federal prosecutors dropped a historic five-count corruption indictment against the mayor.
Additionally, as part of the federal investigation, the cell phones of Wright and the Banks brothers, including Phil, David, and third son Terence, were seized.
Sources claim New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is working behind the scenes to fill the vacancy, but has no intention of ousting Adams before Election Day, Nov. 5.th election.
According to a recent poll by the Marist Institute of Public Opinion, 69% of New York City residents want Adams to resign.
