NYC deserved Randy Mastro and he deserved better

Attorney Randy Mastro has withdrawn his candidacy for his “dream job” as the city's corporation counsel, realizing that the vile bigots who control the City Council are trying to defeat him.

“They have already made a decision for reasons unrelated to merit,” Mastro wrote to Mayor Eric Adams.

That was clear from the moment Adams nominated Mastro to be the city's top attorney, and in April a majority of City Council members signed a letter vowing to block his appointment.

And it was made clear at the day-long farce that was his “confirmation hearing” late last month, when arrogant council members refused to give him a chance to answer questions, lectured him about the misdeeds of the Rudy Giuliani era (when the city really began its long recovery), and criticized white people for being rude and arrogant. Dare To get jobs previously held by black women.

City Councilman Bob Holden (D-Queens) aptly described the hearing as a “politically motivated interrogation.”

“New Yorkers have a right to expect more from their elected officials,” Mastro wrote.

He is right.

Randy Mastro is so qualified for the job that some of his harshest critics admit they would be happy to hire him as their own legal counsel.

But he will never adopt the radical progressive views that the City Council majority is trying to impose on everything. He will serve the Mayor and the people without being constrained by ideology.

The City Council is out of control, and unless it is reined in by voter support or fundamental reform of the City Charter, city government will become increasingly dysfunctional and New York City will become an increasingly difficult place to live.
