NYC dollar-van driver fatally shot in chilling drive-by of second dollar van

On Sunday afternoon, a Dollar Van driver was brazenly shot and killed in Brooklyn when another Dollar Van rolled onto his side and someone opened fire, law enforcement sources told the Post.

Police said the victim, Johansi Chapman, 24, was at 837 Utica Avenue in East Flatbush when another $1 van approached her and someone inside the vehicle stopped her around 12:55 p.m. A shot was fired.

The suspect van then drove south on Utica Street and continued to flee east on Snyder Street, police said. The wind was still blowing on Sunday.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Authorities could not immediately say whether there were passengers in either van at the time of the incident.

Discount shuttle vans, known as dollar vans, first appeared during the 1980 transportation strike and have become a mainstay of New York City transportation.

Although vans have since fallen out of favor, they remain an important lifeline for poor commuters in Brooklyn and Queens, typically charging local commuters $2 to $3 to get around the city. I will.
