NYC Eric Adams Pledges to Work with Trump on Immigration Reforms

New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams told voters Tuesday he is ready to work with President-elect Donald Trump on immigration reform.

“Just as I tried to sit down with the previous administration on my 10 trips to Washington and say, I'm willing to sit in this administration and say, 'We have a problem in our cities.' ” adams saidaccording to Politico. “I hope this administration listens to me and listens to some of the ideas I've been promoting for nearly two years.”

But Adams remains torn between the city's elite-backed sanctuary city policy and public demands for police to cooperate with Trump's immigration authorities.

Adams said at the press conference that he has been trying to get Biden interested in solutions to the border crisis for years, but has been ignored.

Mr. Adams proposed strengthening the border and allowing immigrants into the country only if they pass background checks. He also wants immigrants to be sent to less populated parts of the country rather than to big cities like the Big Apple.

The Big Apple mayor said voters spoke loud and clear and put immigration at the “top of their list” by voting for Donald Trump.

“We kept tinkering around corners, we kept having philosophical conversations about it, and voters communicated loud and clear,” he told reporters. “Our immigration system is broken and needs to be fixed. That's the only conversation I want.”

He went on to call on the federal government to pump money into payments to immigrants.

“The system is broken and needs to be fixed, and New York City has been devastated by that broken system. 220,000 immigrants and asylum seekers have come here, but with no funding from the government.” There is no aid,” he said. “I think it was about $200 million.” [from the feds]had to pay billions of dollars. I don't want to see something like that happen again. We don't want what's happening in Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, and Houston. I don't want to see another race. Let's fix our immigration system. Other than that, I'm not interested in that conversation. ”

Minutes later, he added that the federal government needs to “pay for it” and that “cities shouldn't be dealing with national problems.”

Adams also tried to play with a reporter's question about which side of the deportation issue he would defend. New York City is a sanctuary city, with rules prohibiting police from cooperating with immigration and ICE agents. Mr. Adams said he was not only pushing the ideals of New Yorkers who support the sanctuary ideal, but he was also trying to represent the New Yorkers who called him out on the street for voting for Donald Trump. I tried to make it out of the question by claiming that there was. They want mass deportation.

“Do you think all New Yorkers believe there should be no mass deportations?” Adams asked a reporter if he could trust that immigrants would defend them if they tried to cooperate with the Trump administration. I asked while pushing back.

The reporter reminded Mr. Adams himself that there should be no mass deportations, to which Mr. Adams replied: So should I advocate for just one type of New Yorker, or should I advocate for all New Yorkers?”

“There are people who stop me on the street and say, 'I voted for the president. I think there should be mass deportations.' They stop me on the street and say, 'I don't think there should be mass deportations.' Some people say. So what we need is the ability to sit people in a room and come up with real solutions. That's what I've been doing for three years,” he claimed.

Still, the Democratic mayor said he does not support Trump's deportation plan and will reiterate to the police department that New York City does not allow it to work with ICE agents, Politico reported. So ultimately, he's definitely going to be working on putting ideas into policy that only correspond to what only a portion of New Yorkers want.

Meanwhile, underscoring the concerns of New Yorkers who want criminals deported, authorities in neighboring Nassau County, New York, have announced that five immigrants from Chile and Venezuela have been arrested at a series of high-end jewelry stores that have been operated so far. He was arrested and charged with robbery. east coast.
