On Monday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams reacted with anger and disgust after anti-Israel protesters vandalized a World War I monument in New York City.

“We will treat this crime with the seriousness it deserves,” Adams said Tuesday in front of the memorial. “I will not stand by while people desecrate monuments to those who fought for democracy and human rights. This is the right they (pro-Palestinian groups) want.”

Video footage posted online shows a group of anti-Israel supporters planting flags on statues and using spray paint to defend Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Officials noted that the monument is different from many other monuments that typically honor military dignitaries.

Elsewhere Monday night, protesters raised a Palestinian flag on a statue honoring Union General William Tecumseh Sherman near Central Park. NYPD officers arrived to stop the crowd, and officers climbed ladders to clear the crowd.

The monument was also defaced with spray paint. Three suspects are being investigated for this vandalism.
