In an ongoing corruption investigation, federal prosecutors have issued a series of subpoenas focusing on New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ 2021 campaign.
The New York Times, citing four people familiar with the matter, reported that a series of subpoenas were issued to Adams, the city council and the elections board.
The subpoena, issued in July, sought text messages and other communications and documents from the mayor and elections officials.
According to the media, the subpoena also seeks information about Adams’ travel plans to China and his campaign fundraising.

In a statement to Fox News, Mayor Adams’ office said the mayor is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
“As a former member of law enforcement, the mayor has made it clear over the past nine months that he will cooperate with any ongoing investigation,” Deputy Mayor for Communications Fabien Levy said in a statement. “Nothing has changed. The mayor expects everyone to work together to bring this investigation to a swift conclusion.”

In a statement to Fox News, Adams’ lawyers said they had reviewed and evaluated the mayor’s campaign documents, electronic communications and witness testimony.
“Over the past nine months, we have been conducting our own independent investigation into the areas we understand to be being investigated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Our investigation has included an evaluation of campaign documents, analysis of tens of thousands of electronic communications and interviews with witnesses,” Brendan McGuire and Boyd Johnson III said in a statement.
“To be clear, we have not identified any evidence of misconduct by the Mayor,” they said. “In fact, we have identified substantial evidence that contradicts the reported federal charges against the Mayor and have voluntarily shared it with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. We continue to cooperate with the investigation and are in the process of responding to recently issued subpoenas. We remain hopeful that this investigation will be resolved promptly and fairly.”

The subpoena is the next step in an ongoing investigation into Adams’ use of a private email address and how records of his seven trips to China went missing.

At least one of the trips was partly funded by the Chinese Communist Party, the media outlet said.

According to warrants reported by The New York Times, the initial investigation appears to be focused, at least in part, on whether the Adams campaign conspired with the Turkish government to receive illegal campaign funds from abroad through dummy donors.
