Despite the horrific subway shooting that threw Brooklyn straphangers into chaos this week, Mayor Eric Adams declared Saturday that the Big Apple remains “the safest big city in America.”
“I want to say…to New Yorkers: Listen, people want to be energized by isolated incidents that are happening in our city that our city is a place of anarchy. …” Adams told Q104.3 FM’s Jim Kerr before marching. St. Patrick’s Day parade through Midtown.
“That’s just a bunch of BS. This city is resilient.”
Hizzoner then touted statistics showing that while shootings and homicides are down citywide, there are more private sector jobs than ever before in the city’s history.
“The people of this city are strong,” he said.
“Don’t let anyone tell you New York City isn’t resilient.
“This is the safest big city in America. We are the best city on earth. Nothing else. It’s just infuriating.”
According to statistics, metro crime has increased by 13.2% as of March 10th.
The glaring disconnect was that the abusive rider, Dajuan Robinson, 36, was clinging to life even after being shot four times, including being shot in the eye, during a sudden outburst at fellow riders. It arose in

Officials said a video showed Robinson, 36, yelling profanities and scuffling with Younes Obouad, 32, when a woman believed to be Obouad’s girlfriend stabbed him in the back. That’s what it means.
Robinson then pulled out a gun, but Obouad wrested it from Robinson and opened fire as the A Express train entered the Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street station, police and law enforcement officials said. .
Robinson remained hospitalized in critical condition Saturday, authorities said.
The Brooklyn Prosecutor’s Office told Obuad on Friday that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, but that “criminal charges against the shooter are not possible at this stage due to evidence of self-defense.”
