A Brooklyn gang member has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for his role in the attempted revenge murder of three members of a rival gang who had stolen his gold chain four years ago, federal authorities announced Thursday.
No Love City gang member Jean Fremont, 32 – The man, known on the streets as “Juno” and “Biga Toire,” was convicted of conspiracy to murder a rival gang member in furtherance of racketeering, attempted murder in furtherance of racketeering and assault in furtherance of racketeering in connection with the shooting two years ago, according to Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
U.S. District Judge William F. Kunz sentenced Fremont to more than 30 years in prison Thursday in Brooklyn federal court.
“Fremont will spend decades in prison for plotting murder solely to protect his gang’s reputation,” Peace said in a statement.
“Sentencing Fremont and his co-defendants to long periods of incarceration for their callous acts of violence and complete disregard for human life will help protect our community and act as a deterrent to others who foolishly choose to join gangs for status.”
Peace said Fremont and several other members and associates of the Flatbush-based No Love City gang, an affiliate of Folk Nation Gangster Disciples, lashed out at a rival gang in late 2020 after the rival gang stole Fremont’s gold chain and pendant following a video shoot in Brooklyn.
The chain, marked with the letters “SPMB,” was closely associated with Fremont, one of the gang’s leaders.
According to Peace, NLC members responded violently to the November 7, 2020, theft, shooting and killing several rival gang members on their own turf on November 7 and November 9.
The three victims were injured but survived, according to the federal government.
Seven other Brooklyn gang members have also been convicted or pleaded guilty to charges related to the shooting, including conspiracy to murder, attempted murder and other offenses, Peace said.
- This includes Lorenzo Bailey, 35, who was sentenced to 34 years in prison.
- Quincy Batis, 35, was sentenced to 32 years in prison.
- Oluwagbenga Agoro, 24, was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
- Hans Destin, 32, was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
- Derrick Thompson, 25, was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
- Ricardo Hapburn, 22, was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
- Makoy Lima, 29, was sentenced to nine years in prison.
