Unique Donut Creation in Times Square

In Times Square, there’s an unusual option for those looking to indulge while on a diet: a BLT inside a donut.

The NY BLT donut, available at the Japanese chain Am I a donut?, features smoked bacon, organic eggs, lettuce, and tomato nestled in a fluffy glazed donut, priced at $13.

This unexpected treat is generating buzz on social media. One Instagram user commented, “A sweet donut with salty bacon and egg is the perfect accompaniment, delivering flavor and sweetness with every bite.”

The NY BLT donut is part of a lineup that includes other savory options like Scrambled Eggs and Chicken Ginger Teriyaki, available at the West 45th Street location.

Another Instagram user remarked, “Egg donuts sound crazy, but they also seem necessary to me.”

Founded by chef Ryota Hirako, this chain opened its first and only U.S. location in Times Square back in April, quickly gaining popularity—evident from a TikTok video that has nearly 400,000 views.

Hirako explained how he conceived the idea for the BLT donut, stating, “The inspiration started with my favorite combinations: sweet and savory. At I’M Donuts, having delicious donuts is part of our unique culinary DNA. So I took that idea and created our NY BLT, giving it a New York twist and putting a fresh spin on the iconic BLT.”

To celebrate National Donut Day on November 5th, Hirako plans to introduce two new menu items called “Zaku Zaku,” which means “crunchy” in Japanese. These will include a donut coated with dulce de leche and topped with candied nuts, as well as a chocolate brioche dough wrapped in a chocolate shell and topped with cacao.

Additonally, a fall special will debut: the Pumpkin Cheesecake Brioche Donut, filled with pumpkin cream cheese, spices, and sprinkled with pumpkin seeds.
