In 2024, many people are tired of swiping to find love.
As matchmaking app fatigue sets in, some people are going back to the basics of getting out of the house and socializing to find a potential life partner.
As an event-based company, Single and The City helps match people who are looking for a specific type of person, regardless of their type.
Those in demand may be first responders, such as firefighters, police officers, or emergency medical technicians. Or maybe you’re a healthy and active person. There’s something for everyone, said Austin native Amber Soletti, founder of Single and The City.
“It was in 2008. [and] “I lived in New York City and worked in the beauty industry, and the few men I worked with were gay or married,” she told FOX News Digital about her background.
She added: “I hadn’t met my type of single person.” [that] I was interested in dating, so I decided I needed to start my own singles company to raise the bar. The goal is to meet someone through your event. ”
Singles and the City currently hosts events for singles to socialize in New York City and Austin, Texas.
Soletti said Singles and The City hosts events based on “dating deal-breakers,” including events based on physical preferences, shared interests and backgrounds.
One of Soletti’s most popular events is called the “Rescue Me” singles party, where women “mingle with some of New York’s most qualified first responders.”
The event typically draws between 75 and 250 people, and the men are required to show agency ID at check-in to prove they are first responders.
From there, women are given icebreaker cards with first responder trivia questions to help them approach different men without feeling nervous or uncomfortable.
“Women also get a red dot when they check in, which is their vote for the most attractive first responder, which they give to the man they think is the most attractive,” she said.
Other popular events include Ivy League Dating, Finance Dating, Size Matters, Fleet Week, and Jewish Speed Dating.
Ivy League dating is for people who attended Ivy League schools. If you’re a tall person looking for a taller spouse, size matters. Fleet Week Dates is held during New York City’s annual Fleet Week.
Soletti told Fox News Digital that attendance for Single and the City is up 67% this year compared to last year, largely because people are frustrated and fatigued with the app. He said that this is because of the
“So much time is wasted on dating apps and sites reading profiles, swiping, corresponding, and waiting for responses,” she says.
“In-person events are a great way to meet a large number of singles in one night and quickly determine if you have chemistry with someone and want to go on a first date.”
Alana Carvalho, a relationship expert known online as “The Codependent Perfectionist,” told Fox News Digital in her book that social events for dates are a “yes.”
“It’s very hard to find [a] There are no connections, and dating sites don’t work for a lot of single people,” she said.
“My clients often feel even more isolated and disenfranchised by online dating, so I highly recommend meeting in person,” she added.
Soletti said he encourages those attending singles events to keep an open mind and not to put too much pressure on one night.
“You can’t go to a few events and not meet someone you like and then say you’re done with singles events.” [because] They don’t work,” she said.
Instead, she said: “When you’re feeling frustrated or the chances of meeting someone seem overwhelming, just remember that each event features a different single, and you only need one.”
Carvalho urged people to be “hopeful and optimistic” so they can find “someone who feels connected to nature.”
Soletti, who is 5’10 tall, met her 6’7 husband Juan Cabrera at a 2012 “Size Matters” speed dating event.
They now have a 6-year-old daughter, Nora, who often comes to events and helps with check-ins and handing out name tags.
“I’m happy to say this. [that] I myself am a success story,” Soletti said.
