NYCFC CEO Confirms Interest in Christian Pulisic
Brad Sims, the CEO of New York City FC, has expressed confidence in his club’s appeal to star players looking to join Major League Soccer (MLS). He specifically mentioned the American soccer sensation Christian Pulisic, noting that while the club is interested, Pulisic is currently unavailable.
Sims shared this insight during a recent chat, stating, “If you’re a high-profile player in the MLS, New York City is pretty much at the top of the list. It provides a competitive edge for us and emphasizes our goal of creating a ‘soccer cathedral’ not just in New York, but for the entire country.”
He continued by mentioning the club’s evolving narrative, suggesting that top-tier players would likely be intrigued by the prospect of joining NYCFC in the future.
Pulisic currently has two years left on his contract with AC Milan. However, there are doubts about his future at the struggling Serie A side. While reports have suggested that AC Milan isn’t considering potential moves involving him at present, Pulisic hasn’t made any public statements about his own plans.
The buzz surrounding NYCFC’s interest in Pulisic surfaced last month, with Italian sources indicating the club might make a substantial offer to entice him back to the U.S.
Sims remarked that the league is eager for Pulisic to join and noted, “It’s fair to say we would be very interested if he becomes available.”
With NYCFC set to transition to a new stadium next season, acquiring a player of Pulisic’s caliber could generate significant excitement among the team’s dedicated fanbase as well as casual sports enthusiasts in New York.
Sims envisions NYCFC as the “undisputed flagship franchise in Major League Soccer,” aiming to cultivate a solid roster along with exceptional facilities and prominent players. He referred to Pulisic as a “qualified” prospect for the team, acknowledging that acquiring him would be a process, though he remains uncertain about what that would involve.
Additionally, NYCFC executives anticipate stiff competition for Pulisic should he become available, citing his Premier League experience and interest from other MLS teams.
