Former New York City coronavirus adviser Dr. Jay Varma appears to have been throwing parties involving sex and drugs during the pandemic, according to undercover recordings of Varma speaking about the incident.
At the time, Varma served as chief health adviser to Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio and oversaw the city's response to the pandemic, which saw businesses closed and people told to stay home and socially distance themselves. New York Post Reported On Thursday.
Varma was reportedly unaware that he was being recorded during a conversation with an undercover agent for conservative podcaster Steven Crowder's Mug Club.
In one of the videos, Varma said He is the man who persuaded Mayor de Blasio to make vaccinations mandatory. Later in the video, a woman asks Varma, “What if you found out that New York City was having sex parties during the coronavirus pandemic?”
He replied:
Yeah, it was really embarrassing. We went to this underground dance party. We were dancing in the basement of a bank on Wall Street. We were all bringing our Mollies. [ecstasy/MDMA] Everybody was getting high. I was so happy because I hadn't done that in like a year and a half. A year or so. But I was looking around and I was like, “Damn, if anyone sees me, they're gonna get mad at me,” because this was not COVID-friendly. The only way I could do this job for the city was to find a way to let off some steam every now and then.
In a separate conversation, Varma said, “I was heading the entire COVID response in the city, so we had to do it stealthily as the hotels didn't want people to congregate.”
Crowder has since release He released a video questioning Mr. Varma about his remarks. “Do you have any documents on me?” Mr. Varma asked him.
“Yeah,” Crowder said, before adding, “But you're a government official who is crafting policies that allow sex parties and dance parties to happen, while businesses are shutting down and New York is seeing unemployment rates that are twice the national average as a result of those policies.”
In June 2020, New York state issued guidelines for people having sex during the pandemic, Breitbart News reported at the time.
It is worth noting that in October 2022, a New York state judge ruled that city employees who were fired for not getting the coronavirus vaccine must be reinstated and paid back wages because vaccination mandates are unconstitutional, according to Breitbart News.
Recent post In the article, Varma said he took responsibility for not using his “best judgment” and that private conversations had been taken out of context.
