A shooting in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon left at least one man dead and two others injured after a New York Police Department officer was shot and wounded, police sources said.
Sources said the bloody clash began with a report of a mentally ill person carrying a knife and escalated into a gunfight, but details were not immediately available.
Officials said one of them was shot in the head.
The condition of the officers is unknown, but sources said at least some of those shot may have been bystanders.
Police sources previously believed two officers had been attacked.
