New York City police officers shot and killed a gunman who allegedly fired at two people during a chase on a Brooklyn street Monday night.

Four police officers patrolling the neighborhood in an unmarked car turned the corner of East 57th Street and Remsen Street and encountered a dramatic pursuit, New York City Police Department Chief of Patrol John Chell said.
The 20-year-old suspect allegedly chased another man and woman while firing a gun at them.
“Our officers jump right in. They respond to threats,” Chell said.
The suspect was shot “multiple times” and was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital, the chief said.
The two people chasing him were not injured.
“Tonight, once again, we will see New York City police officers running toward danger, running into the midst of gunfire, thwarting a threat, and saving two lives,” Chell said at a news conference near the same intersection. I witnessed it,” he said.
Those involved were taken to a local hospital for observation.
A 60-year-old man was shot on a nearby block, but it is unclear at this time how he was shot.
“I don’t know how that happened,” Chell said.
Police say he is expected to survive his injuries.
A gun was recovered from the scene.
Police have not disclosed what led to the gun chase.
