Investigators searched the top floor of New York City police headquarters last week for evidence of the sordid overtime sex scandal exposed by the Post, according to people familiar with the matter.
Detectives analyzed the crime scene in recently ousted Chief Jeffrey Madley's 13th-floor office at One Police Plaza. There, he allegedly preyed on Lt. Quatisha Epps, demanding sexual favors in exchange for giving her the green light to work staggering overtime hours. will have to be paid, the official said.
Officials said investigators were likely looking for evidence of sexual abuse, which could lead to a felony.
Epps alleged in her equal opportunity complaint that Madley, the unit's top uniformed officer, had sex with her eight to 10 times in his office.
“She claims she was forced. It was not consensual,” a former NYPD official said of possible criminal charges in the case.
Ms. Madeley's lawyer denied the allegations Friday, insisting that the former NYPD chief had a “consensual” relationship with Ms. Epps and was considering a civil lawsuit against her.
Manhattan Prosecutor Alvin Bragg's office announced last week that it was investigating the damning charges against Mr. Madeley, and law enforcement officials said federal authorities were also investigating the overtime sex scandal.
Epps previously told the Post that Madley first proposed to her in June 2023 and told his subordinate that he wanted to have anal sex with her.
He then bent her down on the couch in his office, roughly pulled down her pants, then reached into her locker and pulled out a bottle of KY jelly.
Epps then claimed he had sex with her even though she told him not to.
A police officer was recently seen near Madrid. Another law enforcement source said that after the Post contacted the NYPD for comment on Epps' claims last week, he entered the disgraced former chief's office and removed unknown items. That's what it means.
It is not clear what items the officers took with them.
