Investigators are looking into whether Luigi Mangione's back injury was a motive in the cold-blooded killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, police said.
“The possible motive we are investigating is that on July 4, 2023, he was in an accident and visited the emergency room,” NYPD officials said Wednesday.
“He posted an x-ray showing multiple screws being inserted into his spine. [in] In some of his writings, he talked about the difficulty of sustaining that injury. ”
The 26-year-old murder suspect had “animosity toward the medical industry,” officials added.
