A New York City police sergeant shot himself in the head in his car in Queens on Monday night, law enforcement officials said.
The 44-year-old Queens police officer was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a residential area of Flushing around 7:20 p.m., police and officials said.
Authorities are not releasing his identity pending notification of his family.

The sergeant's death comes months after off-duty NYPD officer Gregory Purvis shot himself inside his upper Manhattan apartment in August.
