The liberal media has turned against Joe Biden.
The New York Times editorial board has called on Joe Biden to drop out of the race.
Following President Biden’s dismal performance in the debate, the New York Times editorial board has called on him to “drop out of the race.”
“President Biden has repeatedly and correctly stated that at stake in the November presidential election is the very future of American democracy,” the editorial board began writing on Friday.
“Biden says he is the candidate most likely to confront and defeat this threat of tyranny. His argument relies heavily on the fact that he beat Trump in 2020. That’s no longer enough of a reason why Biden should be this year’s Democratic nominee.”

“The president emerged Thursday night as a shadow of the great public servant he is. He struggled to explain what he would accomplish in a second term. He struggled to respond to Trump’s provocations. He struggled to hold Trump accountable for his lies, mistakes and terrible plans. At times, he struggled to finish sentences,” the editorial board told readers. “Mr. Biden has been a fine president. Under his leadership, the country has thrived, we have begun to address many of our long-term challenges, and the wounds torn by Mr. Trump have begun to heal. But the greatest public act Mr. Biden can now do is to announce that he will not run for reelection.”
…
“Let’s not forget that Biden challenged Trump to this debate. He set the rules and insisted on a date months earlier than any previous general election debate. He knew he needed to address long-standing public concerns about his mental competence, and he needed to do so as soon as possible. The truth Biden must now face is that he himself failed the test,” the editorial board wrote.
The New York Times was the first national newspaper to call for Biden to withdraw since the debate.
The New York Times’ decision to become the first national newspaper since Biden’s debate to call for a “stronger challenger” to Trump capped a day in which columnists sympathetic to Biden urged him to step aside. The editorial board and several columnists were keen to praise Biden’s decades-long career, pointing to his original decision to run as a defense of the soul of the nation.
Still, the Times editorial board relented: Biden would be the paper’s “obvious” challenger because of the danger posed by the former president, but Trump had to back out because he failed a test he created: that he was the most electable candidate to defeat the “threat of tyranny” that Trump represents, and challenge Trump to a debate on a date and with rules of his choosing.
