The New York Times Nicholas Kristof, an opinion columnist who peddles far-left propaganda, False alarm Conspiracy theories are a type of admit Democrat-run West Coast cities are “a mess”
Of course, he is not blaming “liberalism” – alas, no way – instead he reduces the issue to “ideological purity”.
“The lack of political competition on the West Coast may help maintain ideological purity,” he suggests. “Republicans are irrelevant in much of the Far West and therefore can’t go after Democrats as hard, which allows Democrats to move further left unchecked.”
He further argues that this is not the case “in the Northeast.”
Nicholas Kristof speaks about his candidacy for Oregon governor in Portland, Ore., on Oct. 27, 2021. (Sarah Klein, File/The Associated Press)
“Presumably if the Republican Party is healthy, the Democrats are healthy, and vice versa,” he says.
Ah, understood…
So it’s not “liberalism” that’s killing these cities, but rather a distinction without a difference: liberalism unchecked…that’s…still…liberalism.
My favorite parts are:
We in the West have stymied housing construction, making our cities less livable, especially for people of color. We have allowed the number of people experiencing homelessness, especially Black and brown people, to rise. Black people in Portland are murdered at a higher rate than in cities notorious for violence, and Seattle and Portland have some of the widest racial disparities in arrests in the country.
…
The root cause of homelessness on the West Coast is a massive housing shortage that leads to high rents: California is short about 3 million housing units, in part because building permits are difficult to obtain.
Do a word search of Kristof’s deliberately misleading article and you won’t find words like “sanctuary city,” “illegal,” “illegal,” or “immigrant.”
Here’s the truth…
If you allow unlimited third world in, drive out regular people, and create a permanent Democratic majority that imposes “ideological purity”, you will have a housing crisis…by design. Christophe’s city, New York, is experiencing this first-hand right now. But it takes moral courage to say something like that, and no one would agree with Orangeman Bad. anything You will be invited to events that bring together the right people in the right places.
Another thing Christophe isn’t interested in is “unchecked Conservatism” Places like Texas and Florida have sprung up thriving states that attract regular people fleeing shitty places run by Democrats.
Governance is not complicated: fill the potholes, pick up the trash, let the market set the minimum wage, put bad people in jail, destroy public employee unions (especially teachers’ unions), allow lots of new housing to be built, and make homelessness and homelessness intolerable for the homeless.
that’s it.
That’s all you need.
Kristof can insist all day that this is a West Coast issue, but we all know what’s going on in Midwestern cities like Chicago and Eastern cities like his own New York.
What’s especially funny about Kristof is that he’s happy to blather all day about the importance of Republican competitiveness, but the reality, and the way he sees it, is that we’re all Nazis.
