NYU Langone Health Maintains Top Spot in Healthcare Rankings

It’s that time again—New York’s major healthcare players are in the spotlight. NYU Langone Health’s Manhattan campus has been recognized once more as the premier comprehensive academic medical center in the nation, as determined by the healthcare improvement organization Vizient.

This latest ranking, released on a Thursday, marks a historic achievement: it’s the first instance where a health system has secured the No. 1 position in this category for five straight years, outperforming over 120 facilities across the United States.

Vizient conducts its Quality and Accountability Study each year, assessing the performance of more than 1,000 hospitals and healthcare entities nationwide. The evaluation is based on six primary criteria: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient-centeredness, and equity. They then analyze the data statistically to determine which hospitals come out on top overall.

“When patients seek the best care, quality and safety are paramount. Vizient recognizes this,” stated Dr. Alec C. Kimmelman, who is both the dean of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the CEO of NYU Langone Health, in a statement shared with The Post. “We take immense pride in our teams, whose unwavering commitment to excellence has led to this remarkable and ongoing recognition.”

Moreover, NYU Langone Health excelled in Vizient’s other assessments as well. Its extensive network of over 400 outpatient practices achieved the highest score among physician practice networks in the country, competing against 70 participating organizations. Here, patients can obtain primary, specialty, and surgical care alongside routine imaging and lab services without needing to stay overnight at a hospital.

Additionally, several of NYU Langone’s inpatient facilities located in Brooklyn and Long Island received honors in their specific categories.

Last year, notable competitors like Northwell Health, Hackensack University Medical Center, and various hospitals within the NewYork-Presbyterian system, including Weill Cornell Medical Center, also ranked highly.

This latest Vizient ranking arrives just a couple of months after NYU Langone Hospitals made it onto US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll for 2026-2027. This list showcases 20 medical centers recognized for their exceptional performance across various complex specialty care services, benchmark procedures, patient outcomes, nursing staff caliber, and patient experience metrics.
