NYU student assaulted and thrown to the ground in surprising random attack while heading to class

A student from New York University was violently assaulted while walking to class in Lower Manhattan on Monday morning, an alarming incident that was captured on surveillance footage.

In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Amelia Lewis, a student at NYU, expressed her shock: “I just want to emphasize how bad this is. I shouldn’t have to be afraid to walk down the street to get to my 9:30 a.m. class.” The video of the attack was also included in her post.

“It’s really hard to watch, to be honest,” she added.

The disturbing video reveals the attacker pursuing the student across Broadway before striking her from behind, causing her to fall to the ground.

The assailant then walked away as stunned bystanders looked on.

Lewis remarked, “Honestly, I’m still in shock, but I’m even more outraged that something like this could happen in this city. We really need to address this issue because it’s unacceptable. We have to pay attention to who we’re voting for and supporting, as New York needs assistance, and right now, it feels like we’re not getting it.”

The NYPD hasn’t apparently filed any charges yet, although sources indicate an investigation is underway.

The student described the attacker as a tall white male with brunette hair and a long beard, wearing gray sweatpants, a large black fur jacket, and a blue towel around his neck.
