Oakland A’s again block all replies on Twitter after realizing how much everyone hates the A’s

The whole Oakland A’s move to Las Vegas was a series of failures beyond comparison. There’s still no clear plan on how to finance a new ballpark, it’s unclear if anyone actually wants one in Las Vegas, and it’s unclear who will actually pay to see the ballpark in 2024. It’s alienating fans.

So the team put their fingers in their ears, screamed loudly, and buried their heads in the sand once more. To avoid being at the forefront of endless negative comments about the team, all replies to posts on Twitter are turned off.

This satisfies any attempt to answer something as simple as a spring training lineup.

This is nothing new. Back in December, the Athletics did the same thing under the weight of public condemnation of the planned action.. It’s a bold move to ignore the presence of others and drown everything out, but that’s basically all the team has at the moment.

On the other hand, I have to feel sorry for the social media team that has to handle A’s account. They didn’t ask for anything like that, and their job is definitely more harmful because the owners planned this move – but also, turning off replies is the biggest social media player in the game. It’s a punk movement.

The Athletics chose this. They decided to ditch the fans. They chose to leave Oakland without a concrete plan beyond “Give me some free money from the state of Nevada.” Stadium plans are currently stuck in the rendering stage, and it’s unclear when or how this move will actually materialize.

Just like the last time A blocked you from replying, giving up after a few weeks of teasing will tell you if this will resolve itself or if this is the new normal. One thing is for sure: this mess is only going to get worse.
