Oakland A’s given historically low over/under

Oddsmakers are predicting a disastrous year for the Oakland Athletics.

After losing an MLB-worst 112 games in 2023, Las Vegas bookmakers project the team to win just a historically low 56.5 games this season (Caesars Sportsbook).

According to , this is the lowest preseason win total for a team since at least 1990. History of sports odds.

Since then, the Athletics have become the fifth team to have a preseason over/under of less than 60, joining the 2021 Pirates, 2019 Orioles, 2013 Astros and 1993 Marlins. All four teams have lost at least 98 games in their respective seasons.

Sportsbooks project this season to have Oakland win a full 10 fewer games than any season since 1990, trailing only the 1996 Athletics, who were set to win 66.5 games.

The Athletics are coming off their worst season in the Oakland era (since 1968) and the second-worst season in franchise history, surpassing the 1917 Philadelphia Athletics, who lost 117 games.

Oakland is the favorite to finish the 2023 season with the worst record at FanDuel Sportsbook (+150).

The Colorado Rockies (+230), Chicago White Sox (+470), and Washington Nationals (+850) are the only other teams with odds better than 25/1.

On FanDuel, winning the American League West is +25,000, winning the American League pennant is +20,000, and winning the World Series is +50,000.

Of course, the franchise hasn’t fared all that well off the field either.

The A’s owners have failed in recent years to cut payroll costs and maintain the crumbling Coliseum, leading to fan protests and a sharp drop in attendance as they move the team to Sin City.

The drama-filled Las Vegas relocation process has left the team wondering where it will be based after its contract with the Oakland Coliseum expires after the 2024 season.

All parties expect the team’s new Las Vegas stadium to open by the 2028 season if a deal is ultimately reached.
