A family is reeling after losing 45-year-old Lee Claydon at a recent Oasis concert in London. It appears he may have slipped on beer-slicked ground before tragically falling from an upper balcony.
Claydon was pronounced dead at Wembley Stadium after slipping. His father, Clive, 75, described the event as a terrifying accident, questioning the safety protocols in place at the venue. He mentioned that his son, whom he affectionately referred to as a “nice bloke,” likely had a few beers that night.
“There was beer everywhere. It’s slippery—you can only imagine what happened. I have doubts about the barrier,” Clive expressed, his sadness palpable.
Oasis fans have been breaking liquor sales records during their performances, with reports indicating that the venue has seen around 4,500 barrels used since the band’s extensive tour kicked off last month. They drew an estimated 80,000 fans to each concert. The combination of thirsty concert-goers led to a staggering record of about 250,000 pints sold nightly at Wembley.
Clive mentioned that several people had warned him the situation felt like “an accident waiting to happen.” He also shared that Lee attended the concert with his brothers, Nie and Ne, who unfortunately did not witness the fall.
Reflecting on the event, Clive remarked, “I don’t understand how it happened. I’ve never been to Wembley; it seems safe enough, but… I want answers.” A spokesperson for the stadium assured that they maintain high health and safety standards but did not comment further as investigations continue.
Authorities confirmed that Claydon’s injuries pointed to a fall, and they are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on video to come forward.
Claydon was a landscape gardener from Bournemouth and is remembered as a devoted family man who enjoyed fishing, music, and, of course, Oasis. His brother, Aaron, shared on GoFundMe, “Our family is upside down, struggling to cope with this unimaginable loss.”
He added, “Lee was a role model for his son, Harry, and was cherished by all of us.” Oasis expressed their sorrow over the tragedy, extending heartfelt condolences to Claydon’s family and friends.
