Obama-Appointed Judge Tanya Chutkan Orders Elon Musk, DOGE to Disclose Plans, Personnel

Obama-appointed Judge Tanya Chukkan ordered that Elon Musk and the Government Efficiency (DOGE) must clarify plans to reduce government shrinkage and disclose employee identities.

US District Judge Chutkan I gave it The later orders of 14 Democratic state attorney generals sued President Donald Trump, Musk and Doge, claiming Musk was unconstitutional. Chutkan gave Musk and Doge three weeks to create the information.

The Obama-appointed judge ordered Doge to prepare all documents relating to federal downsizing or firing of federal employees, and cancellation of federal contracts or funds.

The judge also requested that Doge officials be identified.

Chukkan said in her decision:

The burden on the defendant is minimized by a narrow period of responsive material, exclusion of electronic communications, explicitly exempt from President Trump's requests, extending the defendant's response time and rejecting requests to be aware of plaintiff's deposits.

Plantiffs' discovery requests must be limited to information and materials relating to the entities, employees, contracts, grants, federal funds, legal contracts, databases, or data management systems involved or involved with the plaintiff's state. Includes entities and agencies operated or funded by the State of Plaintiffs.

Chukkan was assigned in 2023 to handle the January 6th lawsuit against then-former president Donald Trump. Breitbart News reported in 2023 that the judge was associated with some of the “most influential” Jamaican Marxists.

Breitbart News reported that Chutkan was known to give more harsh sentences from the defendant on January 6th than his federal bench peers.

Chukkan also refused to reject himself in a federal case against Trump despite controversial comments about the January 6 hearing of multiple defendants.

Christine Priola's October 2022 ruling Chatkan described the January 6 protest as “an attempt to overthrow the government violently.

She also said the protesters carried out the riot out of “blind loyalty to one person who remains free today.”

“The public meaning of this statement is inevitable – President Trump is free, but he should not,” Trump's lawyer said at the time. “As a clear prediction of guilt, these comments disqualify themselves from standing alone.”
