Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.) publicly urged New York Mayor Eric Adams (d) to step down on Thursday, and excluded him from his leadership after the federal accusation of corruption charges. He repeated the appeal.
“Adam needs to be removed. The city cannot maintain that it will be governed by the mayor, who is being forced by Trump's administrators, to escape the charges,” the lawmaker wrote on social platforms. Masu Blue skiing.
“This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but he wasn't. So it's time for him to go.”
Her statement comes after the Department of Justice (DOJ) ordered federal prosecutors on Monday to dismiss the corruption charges against Adams.
But Ocasio-Cortez is not the only city official who seeks resignation after criminal charges.
“New York City deserves a mayor who is responsible for those who are not seen by the president. Mayor Adams should resign,” wrote New York Lt. Colonel Anthony Delgado (D.) Thursday's post x.
State Law Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) can remove Adams or resign at the time of “accusation.”
In either case, the city will begin temporary replacements and hold special elections within 80 days.
The Governor's Post's New York primary is scheduled to take place in June. Adams has nominated himself as a candidate for the role and has not shown any intention to resign at this time.
