October CPI and Jobs Data May Never Appear Due to Government Shutdown

The White House has pointed out the economic harm that Democrats have caused due to the 43-day lockdown, indicating that the upcoming consumer price index (CPI) and job figures may never be released.

White House press secretary Caroline Levitt stated that Democrats are hindering the federal government’s ability to produce vital economic reports.

Levitt remarked, “The Democratic shutdown has created significant challenges for Federal Reserve economists, investors, and policymakers in accessing essential government data.”

He went on to say, “Democrats have potentially inflicted lasting damage on the federal statistical system by ensuring that the October consumer price index and jobs report may never be published, which could hurt all released economic indicators and leave Fed policymakers without crucial information at a pivotal time.”

Levitt also noted that, per the Congressional Budget Office, the U.S. might have seen a loss of about two points in economic growth for the fourth quarter, emphasizing that the economy has “lost billions of dollars” since the government shutdown began on October 1.

“Why are the Democrats subjecting the American people to this suffering for 43 consecutive days? It’s as if we’re stuck in a loop, discussing the shutdown of the Democratic Party this time around. The root of this issue is purely partisan politics,” she stated.

Senate Democrats including Dick Durbin (D-IL), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) are joining Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other colleagues who had supported the original Clean Continuity Resolution (CR) passed by the House to push the new Clean CR from the Senate, which funds the government at 2024 levels through January.

The House is set to vote on the bill Wednesday night, which will then go to President Donald Trump to reopen the government. Democrats were not able to secure any of the concessions they sought for reopening the government, such as an extension of coronavirus-era Obamacare subsidies. Instead, the matter will go to a Senate vote for approval.
