Sadly, the Giants’ season has come to an end.
While they managed to finish with two consecutive victories, fans hoping for the number one overall pick will be disappointed—it’s set at No. 5 in the upcoming NFL Draft.
There’s a buzz around who will take over as head coach, and many believe the position will still attract interest due to the talent present on the roster.
Interestingly, general manager Joe Schoen has received backing for another year, meaning he’ll be in charge of key decisions moving forward.
Oddsmakers have compiled a list of potential candidates, but none stand out as a clear frontrunner, although a few names are generating significant interest.
Currently, Packers’ defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley leads the pack as the top choice, according to DraftKings, who has set his odds at +300.
Hafley has been with the Packers for the last two seasons and previously held positions coaching defensive backs with teams like the Buccaneers, Browns, and 49ers from 2012 to 2018.
Next up in the odds is Rams’ defensive coordinator Chris Shula, who has odds of +550. Shula has been part of the Rams organization since 2017 under head coach Sean McVay, recently becoming the defensive coordinator.
Following them are names with more extensive coaching backgrounds, and their experience could be seen as either a plus or a drawback depending on the perspective of management. Mike McCarthy’s odds sit at +650. He won a Super Bowl with the Packers in 2010 and ranks 15th in career wins among NFL coaches, yet his time with the Cowboys ended on a sour note, with a playoff record of 1-3 during his tenure there.
Recently dismissed Browns coach Kevin Stefanski has a +800 chance of being appointed as the Giants’ head coach. Despite being a two-time Coach of the Year, he struggled with the ongoing quarterback changes in Cleveland that have plagued many coaches over the years.
Colts’ defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo rounds out the list of candidates with odds below 10/1 at +900. Anarumo has ties to the Giants, having served as the defensive backs coach in 2018 before moving on to the Bengals, where he spent six years as the defensive coordinator.
