Odell Beckham Jr addresses false retirement claims

NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has addressed false online speculation regarding his retirement from football.

A hoax social media account, posing as an ESPN insider, claimed that Beckham would retire after spending 11 years in the league. The misleading post included a picture of him with his child near MetLife Stadium, the site where his NFL journey began.

Beckham caught wind of the rumors and expressed his disbelief. In a witty response, he said, “lol wtf… when was it announced? It’s funny, thank you for the concerns, but this shxt is not finished yet.”

He urged fans to be cautious about the information they read online. “I’m not serious. Plz will stop reading everything on the internet and texting me a happy retirement b4 up. It’s not happening. I’ll let you know the day I’m done. If you retire to me happily, I just need to block you. Thank you,” he remarked.

Beckham, selected by the Giants from LSU as the 12th pick in the 2014 draft, made a considerable impact right away—some even compared his early numbers to those of Jerry Rice. In his time with the Giants, he achieved 390 catches for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns over 56 games. However, his behavior sometimes rubbed the Giants’ ownership the wrong way, leading to his trade to the Cleveland Browns prior to the 2019 season.

He later played a pivotal role in the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl win in 2021 but faced challenges the following year due to injury, which kept him off the field for the entire 2022 season. Most recently, he joined the Baltimore Ravens for the 2023 season, and he’s still looking for a team as we head into 2025.

As of now, Beckham remains a free agent.
