Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is nearing the end of his career. Miami Dolphinsa franchise desperate for its first playoff win since 2000. Is Beckham the missing piece for Miami’s offense? Probably not, but he could still be very good for the team.
Beckham is no longer the offensive north star, the man who carries the burden of the offense. He won’t be for a while. But that doesn’t mean he won’t help a talented Dolphins offensive line that finished second in the NFL in scoring in 2023. His skill set fits their high-flying offense and last season, Baltimore Ravens He can contribute.
The ability to create separation remains Beckham’s hallmark. His agility remains a major part of his game that complements his route running. He makes dynamic cuts on the break that shake up defenders and find him in the open field. His one-step slants continue to slice through cornerbacks, and he also has the speed to carry it for long distances.
Beckham finished the 2023 season with 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns. He also outwitted defensive backs, drawing multiple defensive pass interference flags that forced them to grab his jersey and intercept the ball in the air. He remains a route-running virtuoso.
Beckham won’t be the leader of the Dolphins’ offense, with that role going to wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Breaking down defenses in ways that can’t be achieved any other wayBut as a complementary piece next to Hill and Jaylen Waddle, he’ll beat cornerbacks in single coverage.
Whether in space or the red zone, Beckham is lethal in single coverage. Seahawks In November, Beckham effortlessly sliced through Tarik Woolen and gifted Ravens backup quarterback Tyler Huntley an easy floater pass to the back corner.
Defenses will have a hard time containing the trio of Hill, Waddle and Beckham, and that doesn’t include tight end Durham Smythe or the Dolphins’ one-two punch of running backs Raheem Mostert and Devon Achan.
And as always, Beckham brings the glamour. He has arguably the greatest catching radius in the NFL. He brings the highlights and the magic.
Beckham still has plenty of playmaking potential. His “drop off” still functions as a receiving threat. With an offensive line surrounded by good playmakers, Beckham has an easier matchup and is more likely to thrive.
Miami’s No. 3 receiver last season was Braxton Berrios, who had 27 receptions, 238 yards and one touchdown. It’s not hard to imagine OBJ surpassing those numbers in 2024, even if Berrios remains on Miami’s roster.
