Giants fans may have gulped watching Saquon Barkley explode for over 200 rushing yards and two touchdowns to send the Eagles to the NFC Championship Game, but one former Giant… It was great to see Barkley perform at such a high level on Sunday.
Former Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. praised Barkley on social media after the Eagles' 28-22 win over the Rams in snowy Philadelphia.
“So proud of that boy!!!” It's on my soul @saquon that the worst person I've ever seen put on spikes since day one.” Beckham wrote about X:
Beckham and Barkley called each other teammates for one season with the Giants in 2018, but Beckham wasn't the only former teammate to show support for Barkley on Sunday.
Former Giants teammates Sterling Shepard and Daniel Jones were guests in Barkley's box at Lincoln Financial Field. According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
Barkley's tenure with the Giants ended during the offseason, when he signed a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the rival Eagles, with $26 million guaranteed.
Since his departure, Barkley has become one of the NFL's top running backs, but he finished the regular season with 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns, just shy of Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record.
He finished with 205 yards in Sunday's win over the Rams and ran for a 78-yard touchdown and a 62-yard touchdown during the game.
“It starts up front. It starts up front with them, and when you have a quarterback that can take you 50 yards to the house, it opens things up for you as well.” Barkley told NBC. After the win, he spoke about his strong effort.
Barkley's continued success made his departure a major storyline in the Giants' memorable 2024 season.
“So we couldn't pay this guy?” former Giants star Justin Tuck wrote of X after the game.
By comparison, the move to sign him was another feather in the cap for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman.
The two were seen celebrating They fought together on the sideline as the final seconds ticked down in the victory over the Rams.
