Offense made ugly defensive outing an afterthought

Review of the Jets' 32-25 road win against the Jaguars on Sunday:

offense

The first half looked bad, but the Jets bounced back in the second half.

The combination of QB Aaron Rodgers (16 of 30, 289 yards, 3 TDs, 120 rating) and WR Davante Adams (9 catches, 198 yards, 2 TDs) turned the clock back to his days in Green Bay and took over the game. .

Rodgers also did that with his feet, leading the team with 45 yards on six scrambles.

The Jaguars defense is the worst in football, so I'm going to grade it on a curveball, but the Jets managed 400 total yards and scored 30 points for the first time this season.

defense

This was another ugly performance, but one that will be downplayed because the Jets found a way to win.

But Jaguars QB Mac Jones (31-of-46, 294 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, 81.2 rating) recorded them at times.

Rookie WR Brian Thomas Jr. (10 catches, 105 yards, 2 TDs) had a big game against them.

The good thing was that the Jets got the game-winning stop in the final series with cornerback Sauce Gardner recording his first interception since 2022.

The Jets recorded two interceptions, doubling their season total.

Ashtyn Davis made one of the plays of the game with a 21-yard run on a fake punt on the Jets' first series.

Anders Karlsson missed a 48-yard field goal that would have cut the Jaguars' lead in the fourth quarter. He made a 43-yard field goal before that.

The Jets excelled in coverage despite missing their best coverage players in Irv Charles and Brandin Echols.

coaching

The adjustments made at halftime paid off.

The Jets played badly in the first half, but rallied in the second half to win.

Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich made a bad decision to go for a touchdown rather than kick a field goal as time expired with 1:05 remaining, but it worked out.

Offensive play caller Todd Downing continued to call plays for Davante Adams despite a quiet first half and took over the game in the fourth quarter.

While Ulbrich wasn't very aggressive defensively, Jones made his defense stand out.
