Incident Involving CBP Officers in New York City
Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem recently visited the site where customs and border protection officers were shot in New York City during an attempted robbery. The incident occurred over the weekend, and it has been revealed that illegal immigrants were involved.
A non-service officer was reportedly struck in the face and arms at Riverside Park on Saturday evening. One individual, Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez—a Dominican national—was taken into custody after the shooting. He had previously been apprehended by border patrol in April 2023. His suspected accomplice, however, was still unaccounted for as of Monday.
According to witnesses, the officer and a companion were sitting by the water when two individuals on a scooter approached them, brandishing a firearm. The officer was shot in the right arm and sustained another gunshot wound to the left cheek. Fortunately, he is now in stable condition in the hospital.
Authorities noted that Nunes was also injured during this exchange, sustaining gunshot wounds to his leg. He was later transported to a Bronx hospital.
Nunez, a Dominican citizen, was reportedly released into the U.S. on April 4, 2023, under the Biden administration. Prior to this shooting, he had been the subject of a criminal warrant in Massachusetts for larceny and faced multiple charges.
Secretary Noem emphasized the rising threats faced by ICE agents, referring to them as “unprecedented.” Meanwhile, New York Mayor Eric Adams characterized Nunez as a 21-year-old man with a criminal history who had been arrested previously for assault and violating a protection order. He noted that Nunez had an active bench warrant for a robbery, emphasizing the potential threat he posed to the city.
President Donald Trump expressed outrage over the incident, highlighting the fact that a dedicated CBP officer was shot by an “illegal alien monster” who had been allowed into the country under Joe Biden’s administration. He commended the bravery and skill of the CBP officers involved in the altercation.
