Georgia Police Rescue Toddlers from Hot Car
In a dramatic incident, police in Georgia responded to a distress call about two toddlers locked inside a vehicle parked under the blazing sun. Bodycam footage revealed officers breaking a window to rescue the crying children, who were reportedly trapped for over 40 minutes.
The children, around 1 and 2 years old, were left in a car that reached an alarming 117 degrees while parked outside the Cumberland Mall in Atlanta. A passerby noticed the situation and decided to contact the authorities, expressing concern to a 911 dispatcher.
“The windows are cracked, but I don’t think that’s right. We just came out of Dick’s and I heard kids crying,” the caller mentioned.
The officers acted swiftly, using their body cameras to document the tense rescue, which involved shattering the driver-side window to free the toddlers from the oppressive heat.
“It’s okay, baby. Oh, you’re hot,” one officer reassured a child during the rescue.
J’quawn Dixon, who was reportedly the children’s “guardian,” was arrested upon returning to the vehicle. He now faces two felony charges for child cruelty. While many sources have referred to him as their father, it remains unclear whether he is the biological father, a stepfather, or a partner of the mother, as police did not clarify this point.
Remarkably, the outside temperature was only 87 degrees that day, but the car’s interior turned dangerously hot, as indicated by an infrared thermometer.
“A big THANK YOU to the concerned citizens who called 911. Your quick action is the reason these kids are safe today,” said Cobb County police on Facebook. “You saw something and did something, and that made all the difference.”
According to local reports, Dixon was released the following day after paying a $10,000 bond at the Cobb County Jail.
