Officer’s gun taken by partially clothed suspect who was later shot dead: bodycam

Incident Involving Police Shooting in California

A police officer in California took another officer’s gun from their hand inside a police vehicle, began chanting about Jesus, and subsequently shot and killed a man who was reportedly “disturbed” after he refused to follow commands to drop his weapon.

The Fountain Valley Police Department released audio and video footage on Wednesday related to the shooting that occurred on January 24. The situation started around 11 a.m. when the community reported a man acting erratically while trying to open a police car door.

According to a witness, a woman had just exited the local middle school when she observed the man, who appeared to be in distress. The caller suggested that the woman seemed fearful.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Osean McClintock, was described as shirtless and wearing jeans, likely of white or Hispanic descent, with a shaved head.

Officers, responding to the report, approached the scene, and one male officer called out to McClintock, trying to get him to comply. Instead, McClintock began chanting, “I pray in Jesus’ name, forever, amen,” before fleeing on foot.

The officer chased McClintock briefly but stopped when he spotted him in the parking lot of the police station. McClintock then confronted a female officer, initiating a physical struggle as he tried to wrestle her weapon from her while nearing her patrol car.

Bodycam footage revealed this altercation, where McClintock could be heard loudly proclaiming, “You are saved in the name of Jesus forever!” as chaos ensued. The female officer managed to escape, but not before McClintock aimed her gun at her while pleading, “Please, don’t shoot me.”

The male officer rushed toward the commotion upon hearing the noise. Attempting to regain control of the situation, he ordered McClintock to drop the gun, but McClintock instead took the driver’s seat of the female officer’s patrol vehicle.

In response, the male officer fired multiple shots at McClintock. It remains unclear how many shots were fired in total. Efforts to provide first aid started immediately, but McClintock was later pronounced dead when paramedics arrived.

Fountain Valley Police Chief Rod Cox stated that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing and may take up to a year due to the involvement of police officers.

As of now, neither officer involved has been publicly named.
