Officers seize $875K worth of marijuana hidden in men’s overalls

A US Customs and Border Patrol unit in Baltimore recovered $875,000 worth of marijuana cleverly concealed in cargo marked as male overalls. On April 29th, officials uncovered more than 200 pounds of these psychoactive substances, neatly packed in 155 vacuum-sealed bags.

The package, sent via air freight to Belgium, was deceptively labeled as “male/heavy duty workwear bibs.” According to CBP, the street value of this marijuana in the US stands at around $875,000, but its worth could potentially triple in Europe, depending on its potency.

Authorities highlighted an alarming trend where cross-border criminal organizations are attempting to distribute marijuana internationally, largely targeting European and African markets. “High-quality weed can lead to significant profits,” CBP noted.

These smugglers, particularly from regions with saturated marijuana markets, are increasingly trying to exploit overseas demand by illegally exporting large quantities of their product.

The investigation is being handled by a special agent affiliated with a Border Enforcement Security Task Force under Homeland Security Investigations. Last year, CBP seized about 1,571 pounds of various drugs across different US ports.

It seems that this issue isn’t going away anytime soon. CBP has not yet provided any immediate comments concerning this incident, reflecting ongoing challenges in curbing drug smuggling activity.
