Officials Announce Plans to Send Abrego Garcia to Uganda

Immigration Authorities Notify Kilmar Abrego Garcia of Potential Deportation

Immigration officials have informed Kilmar Abrego Garcia that he may soon be deported to Uganda. An email, obtained by a news outlet, reveals that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) communicated this decision to Garcia’s attorneys on Friday, requesting that he report to Baltimore’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The email specifically indicates, “This notice should be acted upon by DHS to facilitate the removal of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia to Uganda within 72 hours (excluding weekends).”

This notification follows Garcia’s release from a Tennessee prison on the same day, where he had been held for several months on human smuggling charges.

Garcia became a public figure after being deported to a high-security prison in El Salvador back in March. The administration at that time later admitted that this deportation was an “administrative error.”

Known for his illegal activities, Garcia has reportedly smuggled individuals from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Ecuador into the United States between 2016 and 2025. His case began when Tennessee Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle in 2022, discovering nine undocumented passengers allegedly being smuggled.

Although federal judges in Tennessee approved his pre-trial release in July, it was limited to 30 days. Officials from the Trump administration expressed their opposition to the release, citing concerns over community safety and flight risk.

Before his release, Garcia turned down a plea deal that would have allowed him to serve more time in prison, only to then be sent to Costa Rica.
