San Jose Police Arrest Former Assistant Principal in Child Solicitation Case

Last week, San Jose police reported a significant operation leading to the arrests of almost a dozen individuals on charges related to soliciting sex from minors. Among those detained was a former assistant principal from a local school.

According to the police department, between February 3 and February 6, 2026, their Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force arrested 11 people for engaging in conversations with minors intending to participate in sexual activities. This operation was part of a broader enforcement initiative by various government agencies aimed at individuals using online platforms for the sexual exploitation of children.

All detainees were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges that included attempted lewd acts with a minor and arranging meetings for sexual purposes.

Ruben Guzman, the assistant principal at Sunrise Middle School, was one of the individuals arrested. Undercover law enforcement officers, posing as young individuals online, identified him as a potential suspect, prompting a criminal investigation.

Authorities indicated that Guzman had attempted to arrange a sexual meeting with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old boy. On February 3, he communicated with this person, acknowledged the minor’s age, expressed desire to engage in sexual acts, and even offered money in exchange. Upon arriving to pick up the supposed minor, he was apprehended by police.

In response to the incident, Principal Teresa Robinson from Sunrise Middle School issued a statement, emphasizing the school’s commitment to student safety. She confirmed that law enforcement had informed them of Guzman’s arrest for charges involving minors, which were not related to school activities. The school acted swiftly to remove him from campus and ensured that he would have no further contact with students.

Following the arrest, the school spoke to students appropriately and reached out to families while offering counseling support on campus. They also established a clear communication channel for community concerns. Robinson expressed that, while the situation is distressing, it does not reflect the school’s values, and their focus remains on supporting students and families.
