PHILADELPHIA — OG Anunoby’s Status Uncertain Again
OG Anunoby remains a question mark for Game 4 against the 76ers this Sunday at Xfinity Mobile Arena, as the Knicks aim to wrap up the series. He was also uncertain for Game 3 due to a strained right hamstring, but he ultimately did not play.
Coach Mike Brown mentioned on Saturday that Anunoby’s situation is assessed daily.
Currently, the Knicks hold a 3-0 lead in the series, but one has to wonder if this might make them more cautious regarding Anunoby’s participation in Game 4.
“That’s not my call,” Brown remarked. “It’s entirely up to the medical team. I just want them to inform me when he’s cleared to play.”
Anunoby sustained his injury during Game 2, limping after a drive to the basket in the fourth quarter. He managed to appear for a few plays but quickly left for the locker room and did not return.
Imaging tests later showed a “very mild” strain, according to reports, and the Knicks are optimistic that he won’t be sidelined for long.
Miles McBride started in place of Anunoby during the Knicks’ 108-94 victory in Game 3, but he struggled with his shooting. Landry Shamet stepped up, contributing 15 points and logging more minutes than McBride.
Joel Embiid, who missed Game 2 due to back and ankle issues, is expected to play in Game 4 for the 76ers.
No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in a series, yet the Knicks are aware of the 76ers’ recent comeback from a 3-1 deficit against the Celtics in the first round.
“They’re a really good team and they’ve done it before,” Brown noted. “We have practiced for this, but most importantly, we need to focus on where we are right now and not get ahead of ourselves.”
On a different note, Giants coach John Harbaugh expressed his eagerness to attend the Knicks’ playoff game. “My wife is cheering me on. She wants to see that playoff action,” he said. “With three wins and no losses, I’m excited for the next series.”
