A pivotal piece of New York basketball history is going up for auction: the ball that OG Anunoby used to score the winning shot in Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals.
This ball will be auctioned by Sotheby’s on June 30th, though they haven’t provided an estimated value. Sports analyst Darren Lovell speculates it might reach as much as $3 million when the bidding starts.
It’s reasonable to think that this item will draw quite a bit of interest, considering it’s tied to a play that helped the Knicks secure their first championship in 53 years. Some might even argue this is the most significant play in New York basketball history.
In a tense climax during Game 4 at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks were behind the San Antonio Spurs, trailing 106-105. With time running out, Jalen Brunson made a contested three-pointer while guarded by Victor Wembanyama. The shot bounced off the rim, but Anunoby was quick to seize the opportunity, darting in for the rebound and sinking it with just 1.2 seconds to go.
This moment became even more dramatic after Anunoby had just blocked a potential layup by De’Aaron Fox, which could have given the Spurs a three-point lead. His last-second score secured the Knicks a thrilling 107-106 victory, marking one of the biggest comebacks in NBA Finals history.
At one point, the Knicks were down by 29 points early in the third quarter and had to rally back from that deficit. Instead of heading to San Antonio tied, they established a solid 3-1 lead and ultimately claimed the championship, the franchise’s first since 1973.
This auction is part of a larger collection of memorabilia from the Finals, showcasing items like game-worn jerseys and nets from the Knicks’ championship journey. Given its historical significance, Anunoby’s winning ball could very well be the star of this auction.
