An Ohio mother, Elizabeth Siders, who has 16 children, appeared in court where she pleaded not guilty to numerous charges, including child sexual abuse and child endangerment. During her court appearance, Siders, 34, was seen cradling her stomach while dressed in an orange jumpsuit, raising questions about her current health status, particularly whether she might be pregnant again.
Her attorney, Thomas Stolly, expressed concerns about her well-being, mentioning that Siders has essentially been pregnant for much of the past two decades without sufficient medical care. He referred to her case as troubling, given that she has had such a large number of children without a complete postpartum recovery.
Siders and her husband, Gary Siders Jr., face allegations of sexual abuse of a minor, though the alleged victim is not among the 16 children. At the time of the alleged abuse in 2022, this child was under their care. Gary Siders Jr. has also pleaded not guilty but has been deemed incompetent to stand trial recently. The couple has been ordered not to have any contact with each other.
In a significant turn, a judge increased Elizabeth Siders’ bail from $250,000 to $550,000, citing her as a flight risk. The situation escalated further earlier this year when investigators uncovered the children, aged between 17 months and 18 years, living in shocking conditions within their Hamden home. This discovery came during an investigation into sexual abuse allegations related to Siders’ extended family.
