Ohio sends cases of noncitizen voting and multi-state voting for legal action.

Ohio’s Election Integrity Investigation

On Tuesday, Ohio’s Secretary of State announced potential legal actions against numerous non-citizens and voters in eight states as well as Washington, D.C. Official Frank LaRose indicated that his office uncovered evidence of 30 non-U.S. citizens registered to vote in Ohio. The investigation also revealed that 11 individuals from states including Virginia, Arizona, Colorado, and more appeared to have voted in multiple jurisdictions.

“We need to convey that election fraud will not be tolerated,” LaRose stated. He emphasized that the only way to uphold Ohio’s electoral integrity is by enforcing the law whenever it is broken.

The Ohio Election Integrity Unit performed this review by analyzing voter registrations and matching them against federal and state records. LaRose has reached out to the attorneys general of the states implicated to introduce the cases for prosecution.

LaRose expressed concern over critics who might downplay the significance of these findings, suggesting that even minor instances of electoral fraud can compromise the outcomes of important elections. He pointed to a recent election in Licking County, where a single vote determined the result.

The investigation comes shortly after the Justice Department, during the Trump administration, filed a lawsuit against North Carolina over its alleged failure to maintain an accurate voter list. The lawsuit argues that this non-compliance violates the Help America Vote Act. Officials in North Carolina have not clarified the requirements that applicants must meet in order to register correctly.

Past complaints about the state’s voter registration system have led to updates, but officials have yet to contact individuals who registered but missed certain requirements since 2004.
