An Ohio woman reportedly let her dog out in her yard this week and it froze to death overnight.
Huron County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 911 call just before 11 a.m. Sunday and found 43-year-old Eugenia Michele Wadman dead in her yard. report By WKYC.
Emergency services received a report of an unresponsive person at an address on Hahnville Corners Road in Willard, Ohio, located in Huron County, about 90 miles southwest of Cleveland.
Authorities said Wadman was apparently taking her dog outside at night “wearing only light pajamas” when she fell onto the snow and ice in her yard.
The 43-year-old woman “appeared to have suffered injuries from a fall while struggling and crawling in the snow and ice covered yard,” the sheriff's office said.
Deputies also said Wadman was already dead by the time emergency services and law enforcement arrived at the scene, adding that foul play is not suspected.
Ohio authorities said hypothermia likely began “rapidly” because temperatures were hovering around 20 degrees Celsius around the time Wadman apparently collapsed in his front yard.
The sheriff's office also indicated that a medical condition may have played a role in the woman's death.
The investigation into Wadman's death is ongoing, and authorities are awaiting full autopsy results.
The condition of the woman's dog remains unknown.
