OHL Suspends Player After Violent Incident
The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) has issued a suspension to a player for the rest of the regular season and playoffs following a brutal hit last week that left an opponent bloodied and unable to continue playing.
Luke Dragushka, an 18-year-old from the Brampton Steelheads, was penalized after the OHL’s Player Safety Office examined the game against the Oshawa Generals on November 14. During the match, Dragushka hit defenseman Brady Blaseg in the face with his stick.
This incident took place in the final two minutes of the game. Video evidence reveals Dragushka swinging his stick at Blaseg’s head, causing him to collapse in clear distress. Even on the ground, Dragushka continued to push against Blaseg.
A scuffle broke out between the two teams, prompting referees to intervene quickly. Blaseg was tended to by medical staff, and footage showed blood on the ice where he had been struck. He did not return for the remainder of the game.
In a statement released on Friday, the OHL explained that their conclusion followed a detailed review of the incident, including video analysis, game reports, and inputs from both teams. They emphasized that using a stick as a weapon against the head of an opponent and then hitting a defenseless player is extremely dangerous and wholly unacceptable in their league.
As part of his suspension, Dragushka must complete a league-required education, counseling, and community service program. He will also have to appear in front of a reinstatement committee to assess his eligibility for the 2026-2027 season.
According to reports, Blaseg sustained a cut in his mouth and facial bruises, but made a quick recovery, returning to the ice just two days later for his team’s next game.
