Oil magnate CEO alleges he was target of false swinger rumors to allow a competitor to take his position: lawsuit

What a Crude Awakening

In an unusual legal case, the co-founder and CEO of a notable energy company in Colorado has filed a lawsuit against his counterpart at another local firm. He alleges that this rival spread “false” rumors suggesting he and his wife are swingers, particularly within their workplace at a local country club.

Michael Dugginsky, associated with Sentinel Peak Resources, was reportedly terminated by his firm in May after being informed of “unacceptable behavior at work,” as stated in the lawsuit. This followed a note he claims he received regarding his conduct.

Dugginsky was placed on leave, but it seems the board of directors didn’t clarify the charges against him. The lawsuit, which was lodged just last Monday, claims that his dismissal came after an investigation led by three board members.

The former executive alleges that the decision to let him go stemmed from jealousy—specifically, rumors spread by George Ciotti, a co-founder who then assumed the CEO role during Dugginsky’s absence. According to court documents, Ciotti began spreading gossip while they were at Glenmoor Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, suggesting Dugginsky and his wife engaged in extramarital activities.

Dugginsky argues that Ciotti waged a “fake investigation” against him to create an opportunity for himself. “The accusations are baseless. Ciotti was aware of that but aimed to tarnish my reputation,” the lawsuit claims.

In a twist, Dugginsky is seeking $650,000 from Sentinel Peak Resources, in part claiming that rumors about his character have led to significant misconceptions among his peers and in the industry.

Sentinel Peak Resources positions itself as a company focused on acquiring and developing oil and gas assets, but representatives did not provide immediate comments when approached.
