Charges Filed in Arcadia Lake Shooting
Authorities in Oklahoma have upgraded charges against the suspect involved in a shooting at a lakeside party that left one victim dead. The incident took place during the evening on Sunday at Arcadia Lake, with police reporting that approximately 23 people sustained injuries.
Jaylan Davis, an 18-year-old, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, which occurred just after 9 p.m. local time. Edmond Police Chief J.D. Younger confirmed at a press conference that the charges against Davis now include felony murder, following the death of one of the injured attendees.
The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Avianna Smith Gray. The police confirmed her identity in a follow-up statement.
Davis was initially held on charges related to assault and battery involving a dangerous weapon, with bail set at $1 million. Reports indicate that another suspect may still be at large.
The Edmond Police stated that the party had been promoted online despite being unsanctioned and noted that it was not an official event. They also highlighted that many young individuals were at the gathering, with injuries ranging from gunshot wounds to less severe cases. Some victims sought medical assistance independently while others were transported to hospitals.
During the incident, it is reported that over 80 shots were fired, originating from a conflict between rival gangs present at the party. Authorities discovered various types of ammunition at Davis’s residence, some of which matched the rounds found at the crime scene.
