Oklahoma Town Celebrates Heroism After Threatening Incident
This week, an Oklahoma town is choosing to honor bravery rather than lament loss, following the school shooting incident that brought back memories of Columbine High School in 1999.
On Tuesday, an armed intruder entered Pauls Valley High School, allegedly with the aim to harm students. However, thanks to quick thinking and courageous actions, the situation was resolved without tragic consequences.
Principal Kirk Moore played a pivotal role in defusing the threat. The intruder, who approached the school carrying two handguns, forced everyone to the ground and tried to discharge one of his weapons. Thankfully, the gun malfunctioned initially.
In the chaos, Principal Moore bravely confronted the suspect. While he was shot in the leg during the struggle, his injuries are expected to be minor, and he is on the path to recovery.
“Hug your children a little tighter tonight,” said City Council Member Kaan Nirschul. “We owe our gratitude to Principal Moore and his staff for their life-saving actions today.”
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt acknowledged the heroism shown by Principal Moore and expressed relief that no students were harmed. He emphasized the importance of swift action from law enforcement and school personnel.
The perpetrator, identified as Victor Hawkins, a former student, is reported to have admitted to investigators his intention to inflict harm, mirroring the events of Columbine.
In light of the incident, classes at the high school have been canceled for Wednesday and Thursday.
