Oklahoma Player Injured During Game
Keontes Lewis, a wide receiver for the Oklahoma Soulers, suffered a serious injury while attempting to make a catch during a game against Kent State. This occurred early in the match, and it was quite a frightening moment.
During the first quarter, Lewis was trying to catch a ball thrown by quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. Unfortunately, the pass went over his head, and as he fell behind the end zone, he collided with the brick wall situated there at Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.
In response to this incident, the University of Oklahoma announced plans to install padding on the brick wall to improve safety.
Oklahoma’s head coach, Brent Venables, mentioned there’s still uncertainty about the specifics but confirmed they will take action. “We don’t know exactly when or how much padding will be added,” Venables shared with reporters.
As it currently stands, much of the wall around the field lacks any protective padding, particularly in areas close to the boundary, which is a bit concerning.
After the incident, Lewis was initially taken to the hospital, where he remained for about ten minutes following the alarming fall. The Soulers, meanwhile, went on to win the game decisively, finishing with a score of 44-0.
On a weekly radio show, Venables provided a positive update regarding Lewis’ recovery. “It didn’t look good at all, so I was scared,” he admitted. “But I’m very fortunate. He’s doing well and, surprisingly, has no visible scars.”
So far this season, Lewis has made 17 catches for a total of 210 yards, including two touchdowns.
