Oklahomans lose health care coverage as INTEGRIS Health and United Healthcare do not reach a deal

Thousands of Oklahomans are losing their health insurance after Integris Health and UnitedHealthcare failed to finalize an agreement by the deadline. As a result, many will need to seek treatment elsewhere. The situation has raised alarms, especially since more than half of Integris’s Medicare Advantage program consists of UnitedHealthcare policyholders.

During a recent discussion, some affected individuals expressed their concerns about losing coverage. One person I spoke to, Sean Pryor, shared his dire circumstances: “I have congestive heart failure, A-FIB, and an enlarged heart. My mom’s waiting for a heart transplant. This coverage is absolutely essential for me.” Integris claims that UnitedHealthcare pays less than 85 percent of the agreed commercial plan rates, which they see as a bare minimum.

The losses are significant, with Integris reporting around 1,500 claims being denied or downgraded, leading to about $5 million in financial setbacks. On the flip side, UnitedHealthcare argues that the proposed 20% rate increase from Integris would position them as the costliest healthcare provider in Oklahoma City—potentially raising the price of a C-section by approximately $2,500 and an MRI by around $500. Things are definitely complicated.

Integris officials have made a statement about the ongoing negotiations, expressing disappointment over the impasse. “Despite our best efforts, Integris Health will be out of network with UnitedHealthcare after February 7, 2026. We were hopeful late Thursday that we could come to an agreement, but UnitedHealthcare reversed their stance by Friday.”

They go on to note that this situation places an unfair burden on families and businesses, which is concerning for patients relying on Integris providers. Integris remains dedicated to maintaining quality care while minimizing disruptions. They acknowledge that in-network access is crucial for UnitedHealthcare members and are committed to finding a solution moving forward. Updates on the negotiations will be made available regularly.
