The puppy was in disbelief!
A brave dog has shown remarkable courage by standing up to bears that have invaded his owners’ home in California.
Doodle, a 17-year-old dog, was witnessing a terrifying scene as a bear was breaking through the screen door.
Zoe Cadman, Doodle’s owner, said she was asleep when the bear rummaged around their Monrovia home for about 20 minutes over the weekend.
Determined to defend his territory, Doodle moved toward the bear as it poked its head through the broken door. The bear reached out, but Doodle dodged the swipe and barked back, asserting his presence.
In a strange moment, both Doodle and the bear seemed curious about each other, almost making eye contact before the bear backed off.
Neighbors mentioned that bears often roam in the area.
The bear continued to wander around the front door, appearing confused.
Cadman eventually noticed a light from the kitchen. The bear had somehow managed to open the refrigerator and rummaged through it before casually leaving as if nothing had happened.
Security footage captured the large bear, which appeared to wear some sort of collar, exploring the house. It’s unclear whether the bear belonged to someone or was just a frequent visitor, but locals told a news outlet that bears are quite common.
“It’s just part of living here. We’re close to the mountains, so they were here first. Luckily, they seem friendly,” Austin Hart, a local resident, shared.
Dogs often go to great lengths to protect their families, sometimes at great risk to themselves.
In a similar incident, a California woman’s dog, Eva, defended her from a mountain lion in 2022, though sadly, Eva later succumbed to her injuries.
Earlier this year, another dog named Duke faced a pack of coyotes in his Los Angeles neighborhood for nearly an hour. He was eventually found wandering a few days later and taken to a shelter.
